Who should attend?
Professionals in the field of mental health (psychologists, social workers, nurses, counsellors, physicians, crisis workers), and students in these disciplines are likely to benefit from our Crisis Intervention Workshops.
Length and format
This is a three day workshop which combines presentations with interactive problem-solving and role-plays. The emphasis is on (i) developing a thorough understanding of crisis-intervention and crisis management and (ii) the development of effective, concrete crisis-intervention skills.
As well, instructors will be available at specific times for individual consultation.
Objectives
At the end of the program, participants will have learned the following:
A comprehensive understanding of crisis-intervention theory and practice

How to conduct a comprehensive crisis assessment, including:
Risk of injury to self and others
An assessment of the precipitating event, dimensions of the problem, and the individual's reaction to the crisis
An assessment of the personal, interpersonal, material, family and social resources relevant to the crisis

How to formulate a plan to guide the client through crisis resolution, including ways to:
Reduce lethality
Re-establish coping
Provide linkages to helping resources
How to develop strategies for implementing the plan and conducting an evaluation and follow-up
How to recognize and respect personal limits and promote effective self-care
